NATIONAL MUSEUM OF MALAYSIA
Jalan Damansara
SPECIAL PROJECTS
PROJECT SYNOPSIS
Muzium Negara is a repository of Malaysia's rich heritage as its existence is crucial in the safekeeping of the nation's historical, cultural, and natural heritage. Designed by architect Ho Kok Hoe, it stands proudly as one of the earliest buildings in the nation that managed to adapt eastern architectural features within a modern design. The majestic structure resembles a prominent and striking regional modern building with its Malay architecture of Rumah Gadang Minangkabau. Along with the building design being stimulative from the point of tradition, it also presents two massive murals of Italian glass mosaic, which extend across the museum façade that depicts "Episodes of Malayan History" a brief pictorial history of the country and "Malaysian Handicrafts" traditional crafts.
With its recent upgrade in 2008, the museum has become a more interesting and interactive venue for visitors, taking them on an exploration in sequence from the beginning of the nation’s prehistory period to the Malaysia we live in today. The museum provides an overview of the nation’s culture and history, bringing in the interest of community education towards identity building and national development, and creating one of the country’s resilient tourism economies.
